TWO WOMEN HAVE died in a single vehicle road traffic crash in Co Donegal.
A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened on the R252 road outside Ballybofey today at about 4.15pm.
Another woman (38) was taken from the scene of the accident to Letterkenny General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The two women were fatally injured when they car they were travelling in left the road and collided with a pole before coming to a stop in a parking area for trucks.
A man in his 40s was also in the car was taken to Letterkenny General where his injuries are described as non-life threatening.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident and the scene has been preserved. The road is currently closed to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to examine the scene.
The crash occurred on the European Day without a Road Death, or Project EDWARD for short.
The initiative was organised by Europe’s traffic police network TISPOL, in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the gardaí.
